The purpose of the workshop is to help participants gain basic knowledge of hand-carving letters into stone. After getting to know the laws of drawing letters and constructing signs, participants will learn about choosing the right tools and stone. Practical part of the workshop will give lessons on how to guide the chisel on straight or rounded letter-parts and how to gradually make a V-groove, the main characteristic of a letter, carved into stone. Participants are encouraged to bring already finished models on paper. No previous knowledge is needed.

About the mentor: Born in 1968 in Ljubljana. He studied caligraphy and carving of letters in 1991/1992 in Kristoffel Boudens studio in Antwerpen, Belgium. After his return to Slovenia he worked for a year with the stonecutting master Boris Udovč from Naklo near Kranj. In 2000 he graduated from art history (with caligraphic analysis of the medieval Bible) and library sciences. He worked as a librarian in the library of Slovene Ethnographioc Museum from 2000-2006. He has cofounded Zadruga studio. He has been working on reviving letterpress technique since 2009.
