For the introduction mentors will show the participants some of the more typical examples of bookbinding. You will learn why the backs of old books are wavy and why modern books fall apart so quickly.
The practical part of the workshop will offer the participants to try and bind their booklet in a Japanese way. At the end of the workshop we will also make a folder with flaps. All necessary material and tools will be provided by the workshop organizer.
Participants of Entirely My Book workshop series will bind sheets of paper they have made during the week into a book.

About the mentor: Centre for preservation of library material at National University Library in Ljubljana is responsible for the keeping of the literary heritage of Slovenian nation. The centre has a restoration workshop, a bookbinding workshop, a research group in the field of written cultural heritage and a person responsible for keeping the library material. Experts working in the Centre restore library material, perform research in the field of keeping library material, analyze microclimatic conditions and cooperate with the set-up and development of e-library.
